After spending quite some time reloading, I've begun to pay more attention to the small details.

Do flat point bullets generally seat more consistently than round nose bullets when it comes to overall length, or is it more about how you set things up?

Most seating dies will seat a bullet pretty consistently based on the ogive of the bullet, not the tip.

I've played around with this a bit myself, and flat points have always seated a bit more consistently for me. They just seem to align better with the seater stem, and I don’t experience as many of those little OAL wiggles that round-nose bullets sometimes cause. It’s not a bigdifference, but it’s noticeable enough when I’m trying to keep everything tight.
