Anyone Using 10mm Pistol During Firearm Season??

I love the two 10mm pistols I have (Rock Island Arms for concealed carry and a Colt). At one time I owned a Kimber Super Jager with a red dot on top, but eventually figured it wasn't worth the money since I live in IL (don't allow semi-autos for hunting) and only get to deer hunt in IA during one season, so I sold it. Retirement is slowly creeping closer, and I'm "hoping" to move back to IA after that. I am a big bore freak, and have many big bore revolver calibers, but would like to get back to hunting with the 10mm if I do get back there I would probably purchase/use what I have for deer hunting. What have been your experiences with the 10mm deer hunting?

I typically stick to shots that are around 50-75 yards, especially when I'm using iron sights or simple optics. But if I switch to a red dot or a scope and have a good solid rest, I can push that out to about 100 yards.

Both your Rock Island and Colt should do just fine for deer hunting. But you may want to think about the barrel length if you’re planning to shoot at longer distances. A longer barrel can give you a boost in velocity and improve your sight radius, which can really help with accuracy.

What kind of distances do you usually shoot at when you head out on a deer hunt? And have you settled on a particular load yet?

I used to own the Kimber Super Jager with a 6" barrel, and it was "ok". But I actually shoot my 5" and 4 1/2" pistols better than I did the 6" Super Jager with a red dot. I don't know why I didn't shoot that pistol well (tried various bullet/powder combinations), ended up selling it.
