I love it also....90% of our music listening is on Sirius, Willies Roadhouse. We are big country fans, and I mean the old and true country. Not any of this new stuff a few of the country wannabes are putting out. We both grew up with the old country from the 30's on up.
There have been a couple free shows up there that I wanted to see at Arnold's Park, but it's awfully far to drive for a concert. I took my daughter to Okoboji a couple years ago because neither of us had ever been there. That outdoor stage looks like it's a fun place and the indoor stage/ballroom looks like it's a nice place for a show too.I like a lot of different kinds of music but mostly listen to country, Willie's Roadhouse and Outlaw Country and Blue Grass on XM.
I try to get to a couple of good concerts each year. This summer saw Alison Krauss and in October will be seeing Asleep at the Wheel in Branson.
The live music scene is very active here in the Okoboji area, Some paid but lots of free shows.
I've found that for good sound you need to be in the center of the venue. If you're off to the sides, the guitars will overpower everything and you won't be able to hear the words. I went to see Samantha Fish in Kansas City last year at The Truman. It was louder than it had to be, and she's a guitar hero so they mixed the guitar loud in the sound mix. We were on the far right of the 1200 capacity auditorium, about halfway back, and couldn't understand a word she sang unless it was a quiet song. But the people in the middle were talking about how great her voice was after the show. They didn't have any trouble hearing. I was center stage for her outdoor concert at Crossroads KC back in 2017 and the sound was perfect there. You never know what you'll get at a live show...Watch a lot of the shows on TV, even the old reruns but live concerts are out. Seems they don't know where the volume control is once it cranked up to an unbearable high. Went to my first, last and only Sawyer Brown concert many years ago. Most miserable 2.5 hours I paid for. I knew I was in trouble when I saw about 50 speakers hanging from bucket trucks. Best way I found to listen to a concert is from 1/2 mile behind the performer. Rank over but I hate concerts.
