The mental game in competitive shooting

I've watched technically superior shooters lose because they rushed the first shot on a stage and then spiraled mentally for the next three. Managing your mindset after a mistake is a skill. Resetting between stages is a skill, most people train the gun and ignore the head. Dont!

I have seen the same thing at local matches, a guy with the best draw in practice falls apart after one bad shot. The mental game is everything.

I saw a top shooter totally lose it at Area 2 after messing up a reload on the first stage. He just couldn’t get back into the zone. Meanwhile, a B-class shooter who wasn’t as fast stayed calm and ended up beating him. At those levels, the mental game is what really counts.
