The people who scalped ammo during the shortage...I have one wish for them

Nobody held a gun to their heads and said they had to buy. If you are a die hard capitalist you understand supply and demand pricing is the best way to allocate resources. Might seem shitty but that's the way it is.

Btw, are you stocking up now? I don't think things are not going to get much cheaper the rest of Trumps term.

I was buying a couple of boxes of .17 WSM every week when it was easy to find. Then the hoarding/ripoff started and none to be found. I was lucky and have a good supply laid away.

I reload a bunch of caliber's and still shoot 17 HMR? During the Chinkna Flu I said the heck with 17's and loaded every piece of 7.62x25 I had for a Prairie Dog Trip to Colorado. I think for here on out I am going to 35 grain bullets a 223 AR , Found close out bullets for something like $0.08/, a pinch of powder and a 4 cent Servico's primer and a 15 cent round works for me.

I like the looks of that 17 WSM they just make a fella dependent on the store bought ammo supply.

I know of one LGS that had 22LR ammo in two sections during the rimfire shortage. One was at the old price, and one was at or near the market price at the time. Some people complained about it. The owner said that if it was all at the old price, there would be none left for those that really needed it.

I was at a gun counter at a large home and farm store looking for 22 LR ammo. The clerk said that they just received a pallet of it. The person ahead of me bought the whole pallet. I told the clerk that he could see the ammo at a gun show for many times the price.

What was sad is that youngsters at the time put away their 22's and jumped into gaming consoles.

I used to frequent Lindy's gun store in Boone when I lived over there. He would generally have the best prices in central Iowa. I was there looking for .22 during one of the shortages and asked if he had any. Old Lindy said, "I always have .22, but right now I'm not putting it out on the shelf. The only way I'll sell you any is if you buy a .22 gun. It doesn't do any good to sell .22s if the new owners don't have any ammunition". It kind of made sense when I thought about it.

On a related note, I don't live near Boone any more, but Lindy's was a helluva gun shop. It wasn't much bigger than a walk in closet, but he always had a lot of good stuff in there. I understand it changed hands a couple years back. I should get back over there and see if the new guy is keeping it up to snuff...
